Vet referral: By law, only a veterinarian can rule out health conditions as a cause for problem behaviour. Therefore, all professionals should work strictly via veterinary referral. We work closely with most veterinarians in Bristol and your vet should be happy to refer to us.
What we can train
From building confidence entering the clinic, to teaching calm and co-operative behaviours during examination, to preparing for a more invasive procedure- we will provide an individualised plan and communicate with your veterinarian in a team based approach to helping your dog cope better at the veterinarians.
What you get
Starting off with a 1.5 hour session, followed up by 2 x 1 hour practical sessions, supported by handouts, videos, personalised session notes, support via email or Whatsapp and access to the private training support group.
Where we can train
Training sessions can be at your home, at our training room in BS3, and to finish off the package; at your vets.
Frequently asked questions
What specific techniques do you use to help dogs overcome their fear of vets?
We use co-operative care behaviours and stress regulation protocols to help dogs cope with their husbandry care at home and at the vets.
Can this training help a dog that has had traumatic experiences with vets in the past?
We are able to help build training and care plans for dogs who have had traumatic experiences, as well as work in collaboration with your chosen vet to prevent future experiences being so stressful.
How long does it typically take to see improvement in a dog's behaviour at vet visits?
Progress rates vary based on the dog’s level of fear at the vets, or when being handled, and the time owners put into the training.
What can I do as a pet owner to support my dog's training and help them feel more comfortable with vet visits?
The most important thing to do is not rush the process and push your dog further than they can cope with. Patience is needed when trying to change fear responses, and we will help you develop low stress strategies for when time is not on you or your dog’s side, so to protect your progress.
